Your bag is not your home, it is not your bathroom, it is not your refrigerator, and it is not your piggy bank…
I’m always seeing articles about the items we must have in our bags at all times. “21 Items Every Woman Should Have In Her Purse,” “15 Tools Every Girly Girl Needs In Her Bag.” These articles are fun to read, but are they useful? Are the realistic? We definitely do not have all the same wants and needs, so how could one single solitary list apply to all of us? Well, it just doesn’t.
Do you need electric blue mascara in your bag? …You might. On the other hand, I prefer red mascara….
5 Things You Don’t Need In Your Bag:
Disclaimer: the following list is my own personal opinion, and while I do value my own opinion, I do not expect you to follow these strict rules if you oppose them. In fact, live your truth, if you disagree with me, you should carry all 5 of these forbidden items on your person at all times. XO.
1. An empty disposable plastic water bottle that you’re planning to refill
Unless you’re straight up desperate, please do not refill your Poland Spring/Aquafina/Fuji/Dasani (you get it) water bottle. Repeated use of a disposable water bottle can lead to a breakdown of the plastic itself, and I don’t want y’all ingesting plastic. Also… bacterial contamination definitely comes into play when you reuse a water bottle. I am not a medical professional, but that sounds like a health risk.
2. Loose change
What good is it to have loose pennies and dimes at the bottom of your bag? Even if you need to use them, they won’t be easily accessible! Loose change weighs down your bag and is entirely ineffective. Get a change purse, get a piggy bank. Come on, Ladies!
3. Pens without caps
Have you ever looked inside your bag and seen pen lines all over the place? I definitely have. Throw away any cap-less pens because they’re ruining the interior of your bag and that’s not worth it. While you’re at it, throw away any pens that simply don’t work. They’re not going to come back to life, just throw them away.
4. Random pieces of paper, old business cards, empty gift cards
You’re not going to use your Panera gift card that has $.25 on it, I’m telling you. If you have business cards, take pictures of them or file the information in a place where you can easily access it. There is a home for little pieces of paper, receipts, gum wrappers, it’s called the garbage.
5. FOOD THAT NEEDS TO BE REFRIGERATED
Listen ladies, if perishable food is spending more than 1 hour in your bag, find a fridge or find a garbage, because that’s just not okay. Keep granola bars or nuts in your bag if you need a snack! That mayonnaise, cheddar and turkey sandwich will probably stink up your LV Neverfull and it’ll never be the same…
I’ll just put it out there that I know you ladies are walking around everyday with a multitude of unnecessary items in your bags… myself included… if you are reading this, let’s all agree to empty our bags at the end of our days and before we put everything back inside, let’s make sure that each item is absolutely necessary.
ONE MORE THING:
If you keep makeup in your bag that’s fine, but make sure it isn’t expired. I found a 3-year-old mascara at the bottom of my bag, and apparently a mascara’s life is 6 months, so ewwww.
