And why would you go back? They’re incredible.
Essential oils are a recent addition to my beauty regimen. Not in a trendy way, but in a real, here to stay, type of way.
Months ago, if you asked me to use an oil product for beauty purposes I’d run in the opposite direction. In the past I’ve tried a few moisturizer products containing oil and have broken out as a result. Ew. I have pretty sensitive skin, and after this experience I stayed as far as I could from oily beauty products.
What changed my mind about oils? Essential oils. These oils are extracted from the plant in a magical way involving a cold pressing process. Essential oils have a tremendous variety of uses and benefits. So often we find ourselves running to a general care physician or dermatologist about issues we can’t seem to remedy ourselves. Well, maybe now we can! Essential oils have been used for their medicinal and health benefits in various cultures for many years, who knew?
I spoke with a few friends about their familiarity with essential oils. The general consensus sounded something like this: “I’ve heard great things about essential oils! I’ve tried products that have essential oils in them and honestly I didn’t notice much of a difference…”
I’m sure many of us fall victim to the vicious cycle of buying a product, using a lot of it in a short period of time and buying it again, confused as to why we used so much product in such a short period of time. Many (generally more inexpensive) products are heavily diluted with water and other mysterious ingredients, which makes it really difficult to get to the good stuff!!!!
I’d like to note that there are many fabulous products containing essential oils, but in my opinion, the greatest benefit to using a pure essential oil is the simplicity and naturality of the product. I love the ability to dilute an essential oil to my exact need, and I always know how much of the product I’m using.
There’s an essential oil for almost everything: Energy, anxiety, acne, sadness, dry hair, oily hair, sleep, stress; the list goes on. Can’t say I would forgo all medicines for essential oils, but that’s another conversation.
I’ve tried a few oils for a few purposes and have come to this conclusion: Essential oils are amazing, so where have they been all my life?!?!?!
Here are a few essential oils that I’m familiar with and recommend:
Tea Tree:
Cleansing, improves immune function, improves skin and complexion, has helped me so much with acne!!!!
Lavender:
Calming, stress relief, depression relief, improves sleep, skin health, pain relief, can be used as flavoring, throw a few drops of lavender in an aromatic diffuser before bed and you’ll sleep like a baby!
Chamomile:
Calming, improves immune function, definitely my go to when I’m feeling under the weather!
Peppermint (one of my faves):
Improves digestive and respiratory health, promotes energy, cooling sensation, extremelyyyy refreshing!
Eucalyptus:
Great for skin and cleansing, improves respiratory health, apparently you can use it as a deodorant? I’m in!
Temping, huh? I love, love, love the remedy-though-nature approach to beauty and holistic health and I think you will too!
