Jeans

Let’s talk about jeans baby, let’s talk about you and me…

Let’s talk about everything that’s wrong with jeans and why we sometimes hate them so much. If you haven’t had an issue finding the right pair of jeans, then you’re a liar! Gotcha! Liar, liar, pants on fire.

Jeans are a staple in everyone’s wardrobe. Women, men, even most babies have denim items in their wardrobes. They can be uncomfortable and stiff, they can be loose and tight in all the wrong places, they can sometimes be so uncomfortable that we find ourselves hating denim altogether.

Those who claim to hate ALL jeans are merely victims of ill-fitting jeans. They have not yet experienced a pair that fits them properly and their hatred is displaced. I know this to be true because I have experienced jean-euphoria, a term I just created (lol) meaning: a state of intense comfort and happiness while wearing a pair of jeans that fit perfectly.

I have also experienced jean-hell, also known as: a state of intense discomfort because one’s jeans were meant for a person who weighs 15 pounds less than them…

Jeans are dramatic and sometimes they even make us emotional. They don’t like to be washed with every use and they aren’t very forgiving when we’ve put on a few pounds. But despite their bad reputation, they have transcended time and have evolved as we have.

You have your flare jean and your straight jean. Your skinny jean, your slouchy jean and your slouchy-skinny-slim fit jean. You have your boyfriend’s slim-fit jeans AND your boyfriend-style baggy jeans. I know, it’s complex. It’s an art, it’s a science, and it should be taught in public schools in place of algebra because it’s way more useful. @BetsyDeVos

There are many guides and useful tips/tricks out there to help you find your perfect pair, but nothing works better than going shopping and trying on as many pairs as it takes.

Bear in mind that jeans are a staple for a reason and that we all need a go-to pair, so if you don’t have a go-to pair, go find some…

I recommend these brands: AG, J Brand, Levi’s, Lucky Brand. This is only a short list. There are so many more brands that might fit you perfectly… You’ll never know unless you try.

Google is your friend, use it to search for jeans according to your body type. If you find yourself in a dressing room with 27 pairs of jeans you shouldn’t panic, because it’s freakishly normal. Try them ALL on at least TWICE and squat a few times to gauge the perfection of the fit and the comfort level.

PRO-TIP: Never buy jeans that are too small as a “goal.” This is silly. Buy jeans that fit you, not jeans that you hope will fit you one day… been there, done that, ended up giving them away.

We hate jeans sometimes, but we don’t have to. Now go find your perfect fit. Happy hunting, XO
