cardigan and pajamas

Evidence-Based Case Study: Sleep/Loungewear Cardigans, Proven to be ESSENTIAL!

Proven by me, that is…

I am officially introducing cardigans to the loungewear/sleepwear section of our wardrobes.

How and why? This wardrobe addition was introduced for one reason: Necessity.

The story: I have a cardigan that my mother once gave me. It’s so cute and comfy, it’s relatively thin but still provides some warmth. It’s made of flannel, which I think is pretty unique for a cardigan. So I like it, but I don’t know what to do with during the summer months. The obvious answer is to tuck it away until fall, right?

Not so fast…

Sometimes the air conditioning in my bedroom gets a little too arctic-esque, so I like to have the cardigan accessible. It’s been resting on my desk chair the last few days.

And…

Last night I decided to watch some Netflix before bed. I put on my pajamas, prepared a little snack and got ready for my Netflix session. Sounds perfect, right? Eh, I was kind of cold. So, I threw on the cardigan and all was well and good. It was perfect for a few reasons: it’s an oversized, non-constricting fit, and it’s not a delicate garment. What would the alternative have been? A long-sleeve shirt or a sweatshirt would have been too much. The cardigan allowed for so much freedom. Comfy and casual, easy on, easy off.

In fact, this particular cardigan practically looks like it was made for lounging. It’s flannel for god’s sake. I mean now that I think of it, most comfy and oversized cardigans look like pajamas.

So…

I had been peacefully enjoying my Netflix sesh until I was interrupted. My dog gazed in my direction about ten times before I looked at him. Ugh, I knew what he wanted. He began ushering us toward the door, AKA it was time for a walk. Fine, we would go, but I had to get dressed. That’s when it occurred to me, I was practically wearing a normal outfit. Loungewear cardigan: wear it inside, wear it to bed, wear it to walk your dog… GENIUS!

This is an untapped market, people. You might be thinking that bathrobes are a pre-existing version of everything I’m talking about… I’m debunking this here and now. A bathrobe is typically worn post-shower/bath, that’s what it is marketed as at least. It’s a cozy robe that can be worn around the house, but you’d never go out in public with it (I hope) because it’s not designed for that. What if you have people coming over and want to lounge around in a comfy and appropriate way? The bathrobe just won’t do.

Aha! The sleepwear cardigan is the perfect loungewear tool. Look cute and stylish in your own home. So many benefits. I mean, if you look good, you feel good. If you’re comfortable, you feel good. I mean it’s really a no-brainer.
